About Joel Oropeza
My Story
Principal Mechanical Engineer Apr 2019 – Present RTX – Raytheon Technologies in where my contribution to the company has been be one of Control Account Manager (CAM) and Design Engineering for one the longest program. Review and maintain engineering support status schedule, various programs performance reports, and deliver program performance updates to Program leads. Reports such as:
Monthly cost estimate analyses and variance analysis reports, CAM notebook accuracy reports, Financial estimates and forecasts for stakeholders and clients, Collaborated in several change notices under a quick timeline to help ensure that Commander’s Independent Thermal Viewer could continue to be sent out to the warfighter. The team’s efforts were recognized as one of the winners of the August McKinney Site Excellence Awards. Collaborate and effectively communicate with several business units to ensure that the business units are aligned with the program’s performance and meet cost and scheduling objectives
Supported HARM Targeting System (HTS) New Radome Build assisting the manufacturing engineers production ensuring the product get delivered on time as planned.
Help Dynetics creating models and drawings to ensure that the drawings meet business standards and ensuring that the part and design for manufacturability.
Also work on many different programs in where I help lead the effort in creating drawings for Albuquerque’s new products development program included verifying the correct notes, geometric dimensioning and tolerance call outs to ensure production manufacturability and reliability. Supported multiple R&D engineer correcting drawings across multiple products to improve and solve design problems such as cooling and environmental isolation. Performed root cause analysis on equipment field failure incidents and improved the assembly process by incorporating a mitigation plan to prevent future failures.
Managed and designed fixtures for prototypes and new products in production.
Used failure reporting and corrective action process, FMEA, Life Cycle Cost and Safety Analysis to design tooling.
Defined the best design approach and communicated the process improvement idea with the different stakeholders and lead
the effort for the product manufacturability and fabrication.
Designed new tooling and fixtures to reduce defects and improved first pass yield, quality and repeatability on multiples product fabrication process.
Designed modular fixtures to perform multiples operations that resulted in cost reductions and freeing up storage space.
Caterpillar Inc. Denison, TX
Served as the Hoop Lead for the next generation rotary blasthole drills machines MD6250 and MD6310.
Performed concept design reviews focused on cost analysis, review of manufacturing and fabrication viability for over 60 design groups within the light structures and 89 light structures ensuring it meets cost and regulatory targets.
Led a new engine walkway design project that simplifies the design, improved manufacturability and reduced fabrication cost. Performed design reviews analyzing costs and lead time, and manufacturability of various concepts designs. Created 3D models for 60 parts and 17 assemblies using geometrical dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T). Designed a new and simpler battery box and mount that created modularity and interchangeable options, reducing the build of material components by 28% and the cost by 65%.
Led the effort to improve the manufacturability of the service station box for the rotary blasthole drills machines.
Lead several production improvement projects for the new tooling to align the Pipe Positioner, Breakout Wrench, Carousel Mast, and installation of the spherical bearings on the track’s axle.
Lead front-end and postproduction quality improvement initiatives by performing failure report and corrective action plans, failure mode and effects analysis, life cycle cost analysis and Safety and Hazard Analysis on new production line.
Developed and implemented new customized travel carts to carry a 200K lbs. machine without the use of rails on the floor, reducing transportation time between stations from 4 hours to 15 mins.
Pure Power Technologies Blythewood, SC
Developed and presented a Future State Value Stream map of production cells that was used to change production flow
Worked on multiple production improvement projects such as: Working on the installation accuracy to improve first past yield metrics and designed new fixtures using multiples CAD programs to improve assembly process for the new product line.
Eaton Electrical Arecibo, PR, USA
Coached individuals and coordinated a cross functional team to create an internal inventory flow management system.
Developed and implemented a Kanban system for a production plant in Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic.
Managed and coordinated daily priorities and production orders for several automated machines and performed preventative maintenance and repairs to the automation production department.
Identified coach and lead improvement events opportunities including value stream mapping events, operation analysis and root cause analysis for the welding and automation production area.
Partnered with Environment, Health, Safety and Security and got trained on OSHA to be the hearing conservation program leader to ensure the program team operates with safety in mind and follows all required safe operations.
